Davide Angeletti

Davide Angeletti

Principal Investigator

Davide completed his PhD in 2013 at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden with Mats Wahlgren where he studied virulence mechanisms in P. falciparum malaria. He then joined the laboratory of Jon Yewdell at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH in Bethesda, USA as a postdoctoral fellow where he elucidated basic rules of antibody and B cell immunodominance to Influenza A virus.

He joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Gothenburg as an assistant professor in summer 2018 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2024.

Nimitha Rose Mathew

Nimitha Rose Mathew

Senior Researcher

Nimitha received her Masters in Biotechnology from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2011. Then she moved to University of Freiburg, Germany and earned her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Robert Zeiser in 2017. She joined Angeletti lab as a post-doctoral fellow in 2019 and is currently working on understanding how B cell receptor specificity affects B cell fate decisions during influenza A virus infection.

2022 to 2024, Nimitha was supported by a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swedish Society for Medical Research (SSMF). Sice 2025 she is a Senior Researcher in the group.

Josue Enriquez

Josue Enriquez

Postdoc

Josue obtained his PhD in Immunology and Infectious Disease from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, USA in 2021 under the mentorship of Dr. Grisham, where his research focused on experimental GVHD-induced bone marrow failure and lymphoid tissue damage. In spring 2021 he joined the lab as a post-doctoral fellow. His current research is focused on development of B cell receptor knockin mice and investigation of novel vaccines.

Hannes Axelsson

Hannes Axelsson

PhD Student

Hannes joined the Angeletti lab as a bachelor’s student in the spring of 2019. He has since completed his bachelors and masters, investigating the development of immunodominance in B cells in the lab. He was enrolled as the first PhD student of the lab in the spring of 2020, where he will continue to investigate the formation and development of immunodominance of B cells during Influenza A infections as well as in co-infection models.

Laura Reusch

Laura Reusch

PhD Student

Laura graduated in spring 2020 from the University of Tübingen, Germany. There, she obtained her BSc in Biochemistry (2017) and MSc in Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology (2020), during which she gained experience in monitoring the antigen-specific B cell responses after vaccination. In May 2020, Laura joined the lab as a PhD student and will work on understanding how the presence of immune components of defined specificity can refocus the immunodominance and influence memory B cell fate decision after a secondary challenge with a drifted virus.

Janarthan Rama Murti

Janarthan Rama Murti

PhD Student

Janarthan completed his master’s degree in biomedical engineering majoring in molecular and cellular biotherapies, from the Paris BME program jointly offered by the Université de Paris, PSL University and ENSAM. He is trained as a physician, completing medical school in 2014 and serving as a clinician for 5 years in several specialties. In February 2021, he joined the Angeletti lab as a doctoral student to study host-pathogen interactions of viral infections, primarily using influenza viruses to elucidate human B cell and antibody immunodominance.

He is also a teaching fellow in the department of microbiology and immunology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, where he receives structured pedagogical training to teach microbiology and immunology.

Danica Fae Besavilla

PhD Student

Danica obtained her BSc Specializing in Immunology and Infection in Spring 2018 from the University of Alberta, Canada. In the summer of 2019, she worked as a research laboratory assistant in Dr. David Marchant's lab at the University of Alberta, researching the interaction of RSV with host cells, focusing on the receptors involved. In June 2022, she obtained her MSc in Molecular Biology at Gothenburg University and started her PhD immediately after, now focusing on the antigenicity and immunogenicity of influenza neuraminidase.

Romain Gailleton

PhD Student

Romain is a PhD student who joined the lab in September 2022. He obtained his Master in Immunology from Aix-Marseille University and worked in the Gaya lab at the CIML studying Bmem functions following S. aureus infection on the skin. He also worked as an associate researcher in the Lafaille lab at Icahn School at Mount Sinai, studying plasmablast migration during type-2 responses. His project now focuses on characterizing the Bmem compartment in the airways in the context of an IAV infection.
